Standard Concrete Mix Designs

Our standard mix designs are available in varying specifications for strength (5MPa, 10 MPa, 15 MPa, 20 MPa, 25 MPa, 30 MPa, 32 MPa, 35 MPa) and aggregate size, as well as exposure class and other properties.

High Specification Mix Designs

Our High Specification mix designs have the enhanced properties required for challenging applications. From very high strength concrete (up to 70 MPa), to large volume mass pours, corrosion protection, shotcrete and to many other specific material and performance properties, our mix designs can be tailored to meet your unique project needs.

Performance Mix Designs

Our Performance Mix designs have been developed to ideally suit specific applications:

Self Compacting Concrete: With very high flow characteristics, rapid placement, and no requirement for manual finishing to create a smooth and attractive finish, SCC is ideally suited for large horizontal slabs.
ICF Form Mix: This mix was created specifically for Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) wall construction and other formwork with dense rebar or tight passages. It is characterized by excellent flow properties and requires virtually no vibration to create a smooth and attractive finish that is free of voids.
Low Density Fill: An economical, low-density specialty mix for filling open excavations, this mix design has lower density, lower strength, and excellent flow and consolidation properties.
Green concrete: We can optimize our mix designs for increased ratings required for LEED building construction.
Premium Exposed: This premium specialty mix is designed for exposed aggregate finishing, offering an optimal finished appearance.

Admixtures

We stock a range of admixtures (chemical additives that change the properties of the concrete) that can be added depending on the needs of the project. Taking into account factors such as application, location, and climate, we can work with you to select the appropriate admixtures to get the best final result. Some of the admixtures we stock include:

Water reducer: Reducing the amount of water in a batch of concrete increases strength and durability, while maintaining the correct slump and workability.
Air Entrainer: To improve freeze/thaw durability, this admixture creates microscopic air bubbles in the concrete.
Retardant: This delays the setting of the concrete, which can improve workability during placement on hot days or after long transport distances.
Accelerator: By accelerating mid-stage hydration, High Early modified concrete significantly increases the early strength gain of the concrete, achieving 7-day strengths that are equal to standard 28-day strengths with no loss in final strength. This can create tremendous cost savings in fast-moving construction projects.
Superplasticizer: Often added at a job site to increase workability for placement, this admixture will increase the slump and workability of concrete in the plastic state without the addition of water, which means that the final strength and durability of the concrete will not be affected.
Hydration Stabilizer: Hydration stabilizer improves the consistency of the plastic properties of the concrete over time until setting. This is suited to large or slow pours when the concrete may be placed in multiple lifts.
Integral hardener: Increasing the hardness of the entire concrete mass, hardener improves abrasion resistance as well as durability. This is particularly suited to high-traffic floors, decks, and slabs.
Colourant: Available in a wide variety of hues, colourants can be added to tint the concrete, enhancing architectural designs.
Integral waterproofer: This admixture acts to reduce the water permeability of the hardened concrete, even in air-entrained mixes.

We offer a large variety of CSA Group 1 concrete aggregates and other construction gradations, including the following:

Washed coarse concrete aggregates (40/5mm, 28/5mm, 20/5mm, 14/5mm)
Washed masonry sand

Washed 6 mm round rock (pea rock)
Roadway surface and base course aggregates
- 75mm SGSB
- 40mm MMCD
- 25mm WGB
- 19mm crushed gravel
Drain rock (20mm 38mm, 75mm, 100mm, and 200mm)

These products are available for pick-up or for delivery in larger volumes.

Testing Lab Services

Chetwynd Ready Mix has a complete CCIL accredited aggregate testing lab at our sister plant in Prince George. The focus of this lab is on our own internal testing for process and Quality Control, but we are happy to help with your testing needs.
