Dokie Ridge

Dokie Ridge

The Dokie Wind project, located in the mountains west of Chetwynd, is one of the largest commercial wind farms in BC. It consists of 48 wind turbines, a switchyard and seven kilometres of transmission lines. The project has the capacity to generate 320,000 to 340,000 MWh per year.

Chetwynd RediMix supplied concrete for the construction of the bases for the wind turbines, requiring a total of 15,000 m3of concrete.

The remote location, extreme weather and difficult terrain presented major challenges on this project. One logistics challenge involved scheduling around springtime road bans due to melting permafrost. Gravel needed to be transported in winter to avoid delays starting the job.

This project was characterized by a large concrete demand over a relatively short period of time. Chetwynd RediMix operated from a portable concrete plant at the project site and was able to meet all demands for concrete without any quality issues.
